Obama Family’s Sad Announcement

Marian Robinson, Michelle Obama’s Mother, Passes Away at 86

Marian Robinson, the beloved mother of former First Lady Michelle Obama, died peacefully on May 31, 2024, at the age of 86. A quiet yet powerful figure in the Obama family, Robinson left an indelible mark as a devoted mother, grandmother, and source of unwavering strength.

Born on July 30, 1937, on Chicago’s South Side, Robinson raised two children alongside her husband, Fraser Robinson, who passed away in 1991. In 2009, she made the selfless decision to leave her Chicago home and move into the White House to support her daughter during Barack Obama’s historic presidency. Known affectionately as “the first grandmother,” she helped raise granddaughters Malia and Sasha, working to provide them with a sense of normalcy amid the intense spotlight of public life.

Robinson maintained a remarkably low profile. She rarely sought the limelight, preferred doing her own laundry, and focused on keeping the family grounded. She once explained that she relocated to Washington out of deep concern for her daughter’s demanding schedule and her granddaughters’ well-being and safety.

The Obama family released a heartfelt statement describing her as “our rock.” They praised her warmth, sharp sense of humor, and unconditional love. While she upheld house rules, she was also known for occasionally siding with her grandkids against their “strict” parents. Michelle Obama paid special tribute to her mother this past Mother’s Day by naming a museum exhibit in her honor, saying, “Without my mother, I wouldn’t be who I am today.”

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden also offered condolences, remembering Robinson as a loving, down-to-earth woman whose kindness touched everyone she met. Her son Craig and the entire extended family echoed these sentiments, calling her an irreplaceable presence and a lifelong example of resilience, grace, and quiet dignity.

Robinson’s legacy endures through the values she instilled in her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered as the steady foundation of one of America’s most prominent families.
