Tensions Escalate in Persian Gulf as Iran Claims Missile Strikes on US Bases

Iranian state television reported Wednesday that its forces launched ballistic missiles and drones targeting multiple US military installations across the Persian Gulf, intensifying an already volatile regional conflict.

According to Iranian military sources, strikes hit key sites including Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain’s Al Jufair district, Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, and facilities in Kuwait. Explosions were reported near several locations, prompting swift responses from host nations.

The UAE closed its airspace over Abu Dhabi following a reported blast. In Bahrain, authorities urged residents to remain indoors and avoid military areas amid visible smoke in Manama. Qatar’s Interior Ministry issued shelter-in-place advisories as Patriot air defense systems intercepted incoming threats near Al Udeid, with its airspace also shut down. Kuwaiti officials advised citizens to stay home after powerful explosions were heard.

The situation remains fluid, with limited independent verification of damage or casualties. US and Gulf officials have not yet provided detailed assessments. This latest exchange comes amid broader hostilities in the 2026 Iran conflict, where Iranian strikes on US-linked bases have previously caused significant but often underreported infrastructure damage.

International observers warn that further escalation could disrupt critical shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz and destabilize the wider region. Updates are expected as authorities continue to monitor developments.
