Dems Are Underestimating JD Vance For 2028: Liberal Host

JD Vance Builds Strong Early Momentum for 2028 GOP Nomination

Speculation about the 2028 presidential race is intensifying among Republicans, with Vice President JD Vance emerging as the clear frontrunner. Political analysts warn Democrats against underestimating him, citing robust early polling and grassroots enthusiasm more than two years before the election.

A recent Emerson College poll showed Vance with 46% favorability among key groups, outpacing several prominent Republicans and Democrats. On his YouTube livestream, analyst Chris Cillizza described himself as “pretty bullish” on Vance, cautioning that overlooking his appeal could prove costly for Democrats. CNN’s Harry Enten echoed this assessment, noting Vance’s roughly 40% lead in early GOP nomination surveys—far ahead of any rival. Historically, since 1980, early frontrunners have secured their party’s nomination about 63% of the time.

Grassroots support was on full display at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in Phoenix. In a straw poll, Vance captured an overwhelming 84.2% of the vote, surpassing Marco Rubio (4.8%), Ron DeSantis (2.9%), and Donald Trump Jr. (1.8%). The result edged out former President Trump’s 2024 performance at the same event (82.6%). Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk, widow of Charlie Kirk, drew loud cheers when she told the crowd the organization would help elect “my husband’s friend JD Vance” in 2028.

Vance has tempered expectations, emphasizing the importance of winning the 2026 midterms first. In speeches, he has criticized Democratic policies on issues like energy, borders, and crime, while positioning himself as a standard-bearer for the current administration’s agenda.

While history favors sitting vice presidents with high name recognition and party loyalty, much can change in three years. Trump’s influence remains significant, and no formal endorsement has been made. Still, Vance’s combination of polling strength, organizational backing, and base enthusiasm gives Republicans reason for optimism heading into the midterms. Democrats will need an effective counter.
