The Christian music world is reeling from a heartbreaking tragedy after a small private plane crashed in Wyoming, claiming the lives of seven people, including several members of the beloved gospel group The Nelons.

The twin-engine Pilatus PC-12 went down on July 26, 2024, in a remote area northeast of Gillette, Wyoming, while the group was en route to perform on the Gaither Homecoming Cruise in Alaska. Among those killed were Nelons members Jason Clark and Kelly Nelon Clark, their daughter Amber Nelon Kistler, and Amber’s husband Nathan Kistler. Also lost were family assistant Melodi Hodges, pilot Larry Haynie, and his wife Melissa Haynie.

The only immediate family member not on board, Autumn Nelon Streetman, released an emotional statement expressing overwhelming grief and deep gratitude for the flood of prayers and support from around the world. At the time, she was pregnant with her son.

Preliminary reports from the National Transportation Safety Board indicate the pilot declared an emergency due to autopilot issues shortly before the crash. Witnesses described the aircraft encountering mechanical difficulties before impacting the rugged terrain and erupting in flames. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the intense fire left no survivors.

The Nelons, a Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame family, had spent decades inspiring audiences with their faith-filled music and message of hope. Tributes continue to pour in, celebrating their lasting spiritual legacy as the gospel community mourns the profound loss.
