WASHINGTON — A security breach at the Washington Hilton on April 25, 2026, forced the emergency evacuation of President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and senior officials from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shortly after the event began.
About 20 minutes after the presidential couple entered the annual black-tie gathering—often nicknamed the “Nerd Prom”—an armed man tried to push through a Secret Service checkpoint toward the main ballroom. Authorities identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, a Caltech graduate, teacher, and video game developer from Torrance, California.
Allen, who had checked into the hotel as a guest, was carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives.
