U.S. Senate Blocks Sanders’ Bid to Halt Arms Sales to Israel

The U.S. Senate overwhelmingly rejected Senator Bernie Sanders’ resolutions to block a $20 billion arms sale to Israel, despite mounting concerns over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Sanders argued that continued transfers of bombs and tank rounds could violate U.S. laws amid soaring civilian casualties, which Gaza officials say now exceed 43,000.

Supported by only a handful of progressive senators, the measures were defeated by wide bipartisan margins, underscoring strong congressional backing for Israel. Though the proposals failed, they sparked fresh debate about America’s role in foreign conflicts and the need for stricter oversight of military aid.
